SARASOTA (Jan. 1, 2022)  – Sarasota Memorial Health Care System welcomed the first baby of 2022 at the SMH-Sarasota Campus.

Parents Lauren and Patrick welcomed a baby boy named Beau at 1:36 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2022. This is the Sarasota family’s second child, and Beau’s older brother Camden is looking forward to meeting him soon.

“I am feeling in shock. I was not expecting to be the first baby of the year at all, but we are over the moon and we are all doing well,” Lauren said.

The delivery team included Jennifer Swanson, MD, assisted by Holli Askren, CNM, and labor and delivery nurses Shelby Tinyes, RN, and Melissa Tomaski, LPN.

SMH-Sarasota’s obstetric team helped deliver a total of 18 babies on Dec. 31, 2021. The last baby of the year was born at 11:27 p.m. at SMH-Sarasota, capping off the largest year ever for Sarasota Memorial deliveries. In 2021, SMH-Sarasota delivered a total of 4,275 babies, including 69 sets of twins and one set of triplets. Since opening in November, SMH-Venice has delivered 7 babies. The previous record for deliveries was nearly 4,120 babies born at SMH in 2019.

The mother-baby nursing team at SMH-Sarasota presented the family with a special New Year’s baby basket filled with gifts for the new baby.
