Cape Surgery Center

Cape Surgery Center at Sarasota Memorial, adjacent to the main hospital, opened its doors in 1985 thanks to a generous donor gift in memory of Helen S. Cape.

Cape Surgery is a same-day surgical center, where many elective surgical procedures are performed and patients return home the same day. An estimated 50 to 60 percent of all surgeries can be performed in same-day, outpatient facilities. Outpatient surgery is a planned, elective, non-emergency procedure that your doctor has recommended and you have chosen.

At Cape Surgery Center, your surgery will be performed by medical specialists in a state-of-the-art facility located next door to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, the region’s premier medical center. Cape Surgery is an outpatient department of Sarasota Memorial.

Although outpatient surgery is commonplace today, Cape Surgery Center remains the community leader as a multi-specialty center for outpatient surgery. Procedures offered at the facility include cataract surgery; hernia surgeries; laparoscopic gallbladder surgery; many types of biopsies; pediatric surgeries, including tonsillectomies and inserting tubes in the ears; ear surgery; gynecological procedures, including laparoscopic hysterectomies; cosmetic surgery; many orthopedic procedures; podiatry procedures; and excision of skin cancers.

Why Choose Sarasota Memorial's Cape Surgery Center?

  • An accredited facility staffed with a highly trained team of healthcare experts, Cape Surgery Center is committed to providing top quality of care in a convenient, patient-centered atmosphere.
  • Cape surgeons are all members of Sarasota Memorial’s medical staff, with privileges to practice at the hospital.
