Cancer Care Teams
Each Sarasota Memorial cancer care patient is matched with a multi-disciplinary team of specialists, including medical and radiation oncologists, surgeons specializing in robotic surgery for cancers, gastroenterologists who specialize in endoscopic ultrasound and complex procedures, oncology surgeons, and interventional radiologists. Led by Dr. Richard Brown, medical director of the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute, Sarasota Memorial's cancer care teams also include cancer-certified nurses, therapists, social workers, navigators, researchers, genetic counselors, rehab therapists and others who collaborate to address the physical and emotional needs of each patient with cancer. For more information on cancer care teams, click here.
Because every tumor is unique, the teams meet weekly to discuss new cases and review challenging ones. During these regular tumor-review meetings, medical, radiation and surgical oncologists collaborate with subspecialists in breast cancer, thoracic, gynecological, gastrointestinal, urological and other cancers to share the latest research, therapies and clinical trials, and work together to develop the most effective treatment for each patient.
Accreditation with Commendation
The Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute at Sarasota Memorial carries the nation's highest level of accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC). It has maintained continuous CoC accreditation since 1988.
